pantomime - and any unexpected moments were embraced with good humour - and great improv by Rebekah. Every pantomime needs the perfect villain - and Steph Evans certainly delivered with her characterisation of Abanazar (bless you) - or was it ‘Ave A Banana? We weren’t quite sure… Steph played the villain with spot on deadpan comedy timing, eliciting boos every time she appeared on stage. I loved the disparaging, condescending, withering looks and lines - absolutely brilliant. Widow Twanky, Aladdin and Dishee Washee’s mum, was a great dame - grotesque, overtly sexual, and daft as a brush and with brilliant audience interactions - I do feel sorry for poor John who was her target throughout! Well done to Ian Loi-Mason for bringing a traditional British dame to Peking, Egypt, and Bollington! Poppy Axon played the Slave of the Ring and was the epitome of a disinterested teenager, and brought proper northern attitude to the role. Made us all laugh a lot and I was very impressed with her unfaltering characterisation and sassy attitude. And Spirit of the Lamp, aka Genie, was played by Ruth Hambleton who brought the wish-granting character to life. Funny and charismatic, Ruth did a great job. Ping and Pong, the police of the show, were played by Elsie Howe and Eva Rowlinson on the night I watched - and they were the perfect
