However, here you go - Aladdin is a magical and adventurous story that follows the journey of a charming street rat, Aladdin, who discovers a mystical lamp containing a powerful genie. With the help of the genie, Aladdin embarks on a quest to win the heart of Princess Jasmine, outwit a villainous sorcerer, and prove that he is more than just his circumstances. In pantospeak, that’s a lot of fun, hi-jinks, booing, groaning, and a huge amount of laughter. B.F.P. put on a brilliant show that resonated with the audience, and showed the importance of community theatre. Just what we all needed on a freezing night in January! Opening the show with a rousing rendition of ‘Let Me Entertain You’ was Aladdin and his brother, Dishee Washee - who knew Aladdin had a brother? Accompanied by an enthusiastic and vocal ensemble: definitely set the tone for the rest of the show. Aladdin, played by Pia-Zara Warburton, was just what we needed for our pantomime hero: funny, with great rapport with her fellow actors. Add to that great vocals and comedy timing, she brought Aladdin to life. And with Emily Neilson playing wide-eyed, in-love Jasmine, the couple were utterly loveable. Emily portrayed Jasmine as a strong, confident, and independent character, with a good dose of humour and sass. Rebekah Tomkinson, playing Dishee Washee, was hilarious throughout. Groan inducing jokes, great physicality, and spot on vocals made this unknown character a central role in the show.
