audience members (including myself) dabbing their eyes Ben Clark, as the irrepressible Mr. Poppy, was an absolute standout. His boundless enthusiasm, impeccable comic timing, and genuine warmth had the audience in stitches, whilst also rooting for his character’s mischievous but well-meaning antics. Clark’s ability to balance hilarity with heart made him a joy to watch from start to finish. Ian Chatterton delivered a stellar performance as Mr. Maddens. His portrayal of the jaded yet lovable teacher was both nuanced and authentic. Chatterton’s journey from reluctant participant to passionate believer in the magic of the Nativity was beautifully acted, with moments of vulnerability that resonated deeply with the audience. Phillipa Shellard-Ross brought grace and sincerity to the role of Jennifer Law. Her poised performance provided a touching counterbalance to the chaos, and her chemistry with Chatterton was heartfelt and believable.
