Act Reviews 2024 / 2025 Season

out loud throughout their scenes. Simon, who I hadn’t seen perform before, certainly lived up to his reputation. His confidence and experience were evident as he jumped into the audience, expertly delivering ad-libs and blue jokes while ensuring the younger audience members didn’t feel uncomfortable. His timing was spot-on, and he knew just when to switch gears to keep things lighthearted. David, who had previously been a youth member of PADOS and is now taking on more adult roles, was a perfect match for Simon. His overthe-top, immature antics were hilarious, and his slapstick humour kept the energy high. The pair worked together brilliantly, and their quick thinking - especially when an audience member shouted “Not you!” at them - showed their expert command of the pantomime tradition who responded with “I love you too”. Their comedy scenes, including the hilarious “washing the smelly children” skit, were entertaining and engaging. They truly were a highlight of the show. Amanda Simpson played Buttons, and her interactions with the audience were fantastic. Her physicality, gestures, and voice brought her character to life, keeping the children engaged and entertained. One particularly fun addition to the production was Bob the Bunny, a prop that the audience had to call Buttons for whenever someone approached it. Amanda’s performance made this subplot a lot of fun for the younger members of the audience. The younger cast members, Abbey Wheeler and Jordan Lawler, played the comedy duo Bodget and Leggett. While having three comedy characters - Buttons, Bodget, and Leggett- could have been a bit confusing, Abbey and Jordan managed to hold their own. They entertained the audience with their childish jokes and slapstick humour, managing to keep the energy up while the cast made quick costume or scene changes behind the scenes.
