Act Reviews 2024 / 2025 Season

Faith Varton-Simms, Isobel McConnell, and Lyla Khessine for their brilliant characterisation, dancing, and singing. I have to mention the littlest cameo by the tiniest chefs who came to “help” Nurse Nelly in the kitchen. The Drama Dept’s juniors had their moment on stage and had the audience “awwing” loudly. It’s lovely to see the youngest getting involved too. The ensemble played a vital role, with polished choreography, harmonious singing, and perfectly pitched comedy moments that added depth and energy to the production. They were used well, and added to every scene they were in. The set was simple but effective - lots of green foliage and trees to embody the dark wood - and some flats to give the stage wings. Props were minimal with a table, trolley, and throne brought on when needed. One of the funniest uses of the stage/props was the fake oven. Nurse Nelly and Muddles used this so well - making it very obvious that it was a fake oven, didn’t open, didn’t work. Had the audience laughing and I thought it was very clever - why pretend something is real when it’s obviously hand-drawn and 2D! There were so many great moments in this pantomime - from the slow-mo toppling of dwarfs, to one audience member being picked on throughout, and the tiniest bear to scare everyone in the forest. The whole creative crew needs to be acknowledged as they produced a wonderful show that showcased everything The Drama Dept is about - enjoying yourself on stage. Packed with humour and audience engagement, this Snow White pantomime was a thoroughly entertaining family treat. Whether the audience came for the songs, the jokes, or just a bit of panto magic, everyone left with a smile. Many thanks to everyone for the warm hospitality, and I look forward to seeing what you do next.
