Act Reviews 2024 / 2025 Season

STRICTLY SHOWTIME Directed by Steph Evans Musical directors: Sheila Kent and Andrew Burr Choreography: Steph Evans, Lynsey Cooper, and Brittany Miralles Bollington Light Opera Group (BLOG) I love a revue show because everyone gets their moment on stage, doing what they love best, singing, dancing, and acting their hearts out. And Steph Evans made sure that every member of BLOG was featured in a way that they felt comfortable. Strictly Showtime was the 30th show of its type by BLOG - I had no idea it had been running that long. And the concept is great - rousing revue, cabaret seating, hotpot at the interval - what more could you want?! The auditorium was very simply decorated with curtain lights on the walls, and ten tables set with black cloths, with a mirror and candle centerpiece - and sparkly diamonds! Simple but effective, and whilst we were taking our seats and meeting our fellow table guests, great background music to set the scene. Once the curtain came up, the stage was split into levels, which made it very easy to see the cast during large ensemble numbers - and large ensemble it was! 25 wonderful performers entertained us through four sections - rock musicals, Elton John, Dreamboats & Petticoats, and Musical Gems. Over the evening, we were treated to no fewer than 33 numbers - not all in their entirety otherwise we’d still be there - but we got at least a taste of every single one. In the first quarter, Rock Musicals, the cast wore typically “rock” attire, and blasted out favourites such as ‘We Will Rock You’, ‘Radio Ga Ga’, and ‘The Time Warp, all of which were full of energy
