Act Reviews 2024 / 2025 Season

Garry Blair, was a good contrast to Tony and was believable as the love interest. I couldn’t understand why the character never wore a jacket, I know he had to borrow an evening jacket, perhaps I missed something. In the unfolding story, letters had been exchanged between the lovers but one of them got into the wrong hands, hence the reason Margot was being blackmailed. The blackmailer was her husband, but it was all part of his murderous plot. Tony engages the services of sleaze-bag Captain Lesgate embodied by Steven Ireland who is becoming a competent actor. A murder is committed (no names - I do not want to give anything away). Margot is wrongfully arrested charged for murder convicted and is given the death penalty. Tony thinks he is in the clear and can soon enjoy Margot’s money. That is until Inspector Hubbard enters: he wants answers to questions to which he already knows the answers. Jonathan Coupe, as Hubbard, knew just how to play the character. In the style of Inspector Jack Frost, a television character created by David Jason, he drove the story telling. Through the Inspector’s investigation the true murderer was outwitted, and Margot is released. This production was another feather in HATS production cap. A little more attention to detail would have taken the production to another level.
